Medium-term rental company Meridian Vehicle Solutions has announced its intentions to target fleet customers from the second half of the year.

To do this, the firm is currently assembling a direct sales team in order to interact with its intended audience.

Up until now, the firm – which provides vehicles to fleets for up to six months at a time – has provided its services through third-party leasing companies, but its MD, Phil Jerome, said he “has no intention of competing with our existing leasing company base; in fact, we will consciously avoid targeting their customers”.

“The feedback we receive from the market is that there is growing interest in medium-term rental and we intend to position ourselves as the key supplier in the sector,” he added. “We see a lot of potential from fleets who need a three to six-month rental solution to cover situations such as probationary periods, short-term contracts, pool cars and more.”

But he cautioned: “The challenge we face is translating interest in medium-term rental into genuine demand for the product from organisations for which it would be an effective and efficient solution.”
