Mercedes has unveiled the first official pictures of its GLA 45 AMG sports SUV.

The firm claims the GLA’s 460hp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is the most powerful series-production four-cylinder turbo unit in the world.

It renders the GLA good for a top speed of 155mph and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.

Expect official fuel consumption of 37.6 mpg and emissions of 175g/km. The Nox emissions are also low enough to make it Euro 6 emission compliant.

Bi-xenon headlamps come as standard in addition to variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive and new AMG lettering across the radiator grille.

Features such as a rear spoiler, coloured brake calipers and a carbon-fibre trim are also available as optional extras. The interior includes leather sports seats with red stitching.

The GLA 45 AMG will be revealed in the metal at next week’s Detroit motor show.

UK specification and prices are to be confirmed later on.
