Lexus is planning to boost its user chooser appeal with the introduction of a performance-styled F-sport trim level.

Starting on the IS range, the F-sport pack will give the Japanese prestige brand a rival to the highly successful BMW M-sport and Audi S-line trim levels.

Lexus is using the ‘F’ badge because its range-topping and performance models use this nomenclature, such as the 417PS ISF and the recently revealed LFA 552PS sportscar.

The F-sport models will add a sporty bodykit to the standard car but will not alter the suspension or engine, according to a Lexus spokesman.

M-sport is believed to account for 50% of sales in the 3-series range and, according to Audi, S-line accounts for 60% of all A4s sold.

The Lexus F-sport trim level and options will launch in the UK on the IS in early 2010.
