Kia has added an AI voice assistant to its EV3 via an over-the-air software update.

Kia says the assistant is powered by generative AI, enabling “natural and conversational” voice control.

It is part of the RU 24.2 update, which for the EV3 also includes new wi-fi hotspot, entertainment, and YouTube features available as paid options.

For the EV3, and also the EV6, EV9, and Sorento (2022 model year onwards), the update also includes new temperature and volume voice controls, an enhanced EV route planner system, new sat-nav and text-to-speech features, and a new alert system when an emergency vehicle is approaching.

For all telematics-equipped Kias from the 2022 model year, the update includes a navigation camera alarm now based on TomTom data.

Telematics enabled 2022-on Kias are eligible for two free over-the-air updates, after which they must be purchased via the Kia Connect store.
