Bucking a general downward trend, that saw the industry down 2.8% over the first six months of 2006, July hit back with sales growth of 1.3%, with 89,576 cars reaching company car fleets.

Last month BMW stormed up the table bloodying many a mainstream player’s nose, but July saw the German marque sink from fourth to 10th, comfortably beaten by its fellow premium foe Audi. Blame 3 series sales dropping off by a quarter, a new fleet friendly 325d could be the remedy.

July also saw Ford topple Vauxhall in the tussle for top spot, last month it played second best, but this month top spot Focus and a strong performance by Fiesta and Mondeo meant Luton abdicating its short lived throne.
