Drivers involved in ‘jamming’ GPS vehicle tracking systems to conceal their location from employers are blocking technology that has the potential to reduce redundancies and protect salaries, according to telematics firm TomTom.
The company’s UK director of business solutions, Giles Margerison, explained: By enabling companies to slash fuel costs and boost productivity in challenging economic times, fleet management solutions can help protect salaries and mean fewer workforce redundancies.”
TomTom believes that better education from fleet operators can deter drivers from concealing their location, and Margerison said that increasing job security alongside factors such as reducing stress needed to be explained fully to drivers and fleet managers. He added: “The right fleet management provider will offer businesses support and training to help them achieve this.”
Margerison also pointed out that tracking systems incorporate functions to ensure tracking does not continue outside working hours.
He encouraged TomTom clients to involve staff when applying fleet management technology so they can profit from huge cost savings, including tracker-aided rewards for improvements in driving style and good practice.
TomTom’s advice follows a Government-backed study, which estimated that up to 450 jamming incidents could occur daily.
