Honda has reduced emissions of its Insight hybrid, from 101g/km to 96g/km. The changes, which will take effect from 2012, put the car on a more even keel with its most direct competitor, the Toyota Prius, which emits 92g/km.

The lower emissions have been achieved through enhanced aerodynamics and powertrain efficiency, said Honda, while reduced engine friction, changes to the CVT transmission and improved air conditioning all contribute to lower fuel consumption.

The revised model also receives a design refresh, including a new front grille. Rear visibility, often criticised, is improved with the introduction of a slimmer spoiler and a reduction in the size of the wiper motor.

Adjustments have also been made to the engine and suspension to improve ride comfort and stability, and interior quality has been enhanced, according to the carmaker.
