Infiniti is expected to offer its M saloon with a hybrid engine when it arrives in the UK in mid 2010.

A company source confirmed the hybrid powertrain will definitely go on sale in America, and is “most likely” to come to Europe. The BMW 5-series rivalling car will also be fitted with the V6 diesel engine that’s available in the Renault Laguna Coupe.

The diesel engine will arrive in the UK at the same time as the M, in mid-2010, and will be available in the other cars in the Infiniti range.

Infiniti will launch with four body styles in the UK: a G saloon and coupe, an EX small 4×4 and the large 4×4 FX. A G convertible will arrive in late summer of 2009.

The brand expects sales to be modest to start with, with numbers predicted to be in the hundreds rather than thousands in 2009. Infiniti’s range will launch with two petrol engines – a 3.7-litre V6 plus a 5.0-litre V8 that will only be available in the top-of-the-range FX off-roader.
