The Institute of Advanced Motorists has appointed Sarah Sillars as its new CEO from 5 February.

Sillars is moving to the IAM from her current role at Semta, a sector skills council for engineering and advanced manufacturing.

Before that, she was the CEO of the Institute of the Motoring Industry, and was awarded her an honorary fellow and vice president on her departure in 2012.

The IAM said Sillars would campaign for legislation to improve road safety.

“With more than 1700 deaths and 21,000 serious injuries a year on our roads there is still much work to be done,” said Sillars

“My intention is to ensure that we consolidate our experience and expertise, and then change up a gear – to further build on the excellent and vital research, training and lobbying activities that we carry out,” she said.
