Honda is looking forward to a strong year for the Civic hybrid.

A production ramp-up in Japan will help the brand meet its 1000-unit target for 2007, while more than 500 were sold in 2006 despite the car not going on sale until midway through the year, with corporate customers leading the way.

“We’ve found that environmental concerns are not merely lip service; people are pushing hybrids on their lists,” said Lucy Ellwood, Honda product planning executive.

“Most are public sector – police and government agencies – but there are some private businesses.”
