Electric vehicle charging company Pod Point is offering free charging units to electric and hybrid vehicle owners in East Anglia, the East and West Midlands, thanks to a grant from the Government’s Plugged-In Places scheme.

The fully installed charge point, worth more than £1000, can be installed in the home or workplace, and is subject to a free site survey.

The latest ‘smart’ communicating charge point, called the Solo 2, has in-built GPRS technology that allows two-way communications between the charge point and online account, enabling electric and plug-in vehicle drivers to monitor how much energy they use, remotely lock the charge point or set charging schedules from a laptop, PC or mobile phone.

The firm added that customers within the M25 are also eligible for a free charge point under a different scheme.
