More than 400 businesses managing more than 100,000 vehicles have dramatically highlighted the continuing shift towards a system formally managing fuel use.

According to research conducted by fleet and fuel management experts Arval, the number of firms with a formal fuel policy rocketed to 65% of all companies questioned, compared to just 51% back in ’05.

The rise has been attributed to unpredictable and rising fuel policies.

Half of those with fuel cards and policies in place also encouraged greater car occupancy on business trips and greater vehicle maintenance to ensure the lowest fuel consumption.
