Fleet drivers have been accused of complacency and a lack of precaution during good weather after research revealed 53% of car accidents occur in clear conditions, while just 4% occur in adverse weather such as severe rain, snow or sleet.
Total Accident Management has also revealed that business drivers are 30-40% more likely to be involved in a collision than private motorists, according to results gathered from a cross-section of company car drivers between April 2011 and May 2012
Impacts in car parks accounted for 10% of all shunts.
Meanwhile, the Government has announced a new consultation into road penalties that would see standard fines rise from £60 to £90. Fixed penalties for careless driving would also be introduced, and would carry the punishment of three penalty points plus a standard fine.
