Volkswagen has revealed the new Beetle Dune – an off-road version of its retro three-door hatchback.
Although UK pricing hasn’t been announced yet, the jacked-up Beetle will cost from 23,625 euros (£16,573) for the hardtop and 27,800 euros (£19,505) for the convertible version when it goes on sale in Germany. It is expected to reach the UK next year.
Two diesels – a 110hp 1.6-litre and a 150hp 2.0 diesel – and three petrols – a 103hp 1.2, a 140hp 1.4 and 220hp 2.0 – power the new model, which is intended to hark back to the company’s Baja California dune buggies from the 1960s, with the car’s exterior styling being loosely based on the off-road machines’ looks.
Inside, the new Beetle features a black interior with contrasting body-colour stitching on the seats and steering wheel,
The interior also features some of Volkswagen’s latest media systems, which include voice control functionality, while an optional sound system will also be available. It features a 10-channel amplifier and 400 watts of output power, which can be increased by ordering additional speakers.
