Ford has revealed its new seven-seat Galaxy MPV ahead of its on-sale date later this year. Pricing will be confirmed next month.

It is powered by Ford’s 210hp bi-turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine as well as a 2.0-litre single-turbo unit in 120hp, 150hp and 180hp guises. Ford hasn’t revealed any efficiency details yet, but it claims the units offer cleaner NOX emissions than previous engines.

Petrol-wise, the Galaxy is powered by the firm’s 160hp 1.5-litre engine and a 240hp 2.0-litre unit. Again, efficiency details have not been revealed but Ford is claiming improved CO2 emissions and mpg figures.

The Galaxy is fitted with a control panel in the rear luggage compartment allowing the option to fold all second and third-row seats at a push of a button. Ford claims this is a first in the segment and the panel can automatically raise the third row seats.

The new Galaxy will be equipped with the firm’s Intelligent Speed Limiter software, previously announced to be coming to the new S-max too. The device automatically adjusts the limiter to remain within changing speed limits on roads. The system is activated via a steering wheel control with a maximum speed set.

ISL then uses a windscreen-mounted camera to monitor road signs. When the speed limit is lower than the maximum set speed, the device will slow the car to the required speed. Ford said it slows the vehicle by restricting the fuel supply to the engine rather than applying brakes.

The system is effective between 20-120mph, and can be overridden by the driver pressing firmly on the accelerator. When there is a large distance between speed limit signs, the system communicates with the navigation unit to maintain the speed.

Other technology fitted includes the firm’s Sync 2 voice control software, park-out assist and cross traffic assist.
