Renault will replace its five-seat Scenic MPV with a crossover named Scenic XMOD, while the seven-seater Grand Scenic will remain in the range and receives a facelift to tie in with the launch.
Showcasing the trend for crossovers, the Scenic XMOD “combines the outdoor cues of a crossover with the refined world of an MPV,” said Renault.
Exterior styling includes a redesigned front grille, revised front and rear bumpers, sill guards and chrome-finish roof bars, as well as Renault’s new logo and LED daytime running lights. The car is also the first to have Renault’s new traction control system Grip Xtend which intends “to grip the road confidently under difficult driving conditions”.
Specifications will be announced at a later date, but Renault’s three new Energy engines will be available on the XMOD and Grand Scenic with the petrol TCe 130 stop/start offering a 15% improvement on fuel consumption over the outgoing unit.
The Scenic will be phased out in May or June as the XMOD version arrives. Prices are not yet known but a UK spokesman said Renault was “trying to keep them the same”. Current prices range from £18,335 to £21,325.
