Citroen has fitted a new e-HDi Airdream micro-hybrid drivetrain to its six most fuel-efficient Berlingos – the most frugal of which has combined cycle consumption of 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 123g/km.

Scott Michael, Citroen’s CV operations manager, said: “The e-HDi Airdream micro-hybrid drivetrain will provide customers with even more cost savings and environmental advantages thanks to its improvement in fuel economy by up to 19% and an emissions reduction of up to 17.5%.”

In city driving, Citroen claimed the Airdream will improve fuel efficiency by up to 15%.

The drivetrain incorporates the latest Euro5 HDi 90 diesel engine, which develops 90hp at 4000rpm. It includes stop/start technology and regenerative braking, which recovers energy that would otherwise be lost when braking.Berlingo vans with the Airdream are priced from £12,795, excluding VAT.
