A 2030 phase-out date for new petrol and diesel car sales would be a major risk without additional market support measures being introduced by the UK Government, according to the BVRLA.
The rental and leasing industry body said a government consultation was expected to begin in late September on returning the date to 2030, after it was pushed back to 2035 by the previous government last year.
The BVRLA said the consultation was expected to focus on defining hybrid vehicles that could continue to be sold from 2030 to 2035.
BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said: “The ZEV mandate timetable and 2030 phase-out target for cars present a major risk unless we see much greater government support to stimulate new and used BEV demand and better charging infrastructure.”
The BVRLA also believes that a 2030 phase-out date for ICE vans – the government’s position on which is still unclear – would be unachievable.
