Alistair Darling has confirmed that the Government still plans to raise money via selling some of the country’s assets including the Dartford Crossing.

The chancellor said during his Budget speech that the Government is looking at options for the sale of the toll tunnel and bridge, which currently costs car drivers £1.50 per crossing.

Along with selling off the Student Loan Book and Tote, Darling said the disposal would “make a significant contribution to reducing debt”, though motoring groups had previously raised concerns at the sale’s potential to increase cost for businesses and private motorists.
