Bristol City Council has upgraded its fleet software system to begin tracking mileage, emissions and fuel consumption in an effort to cut down on unnecessary expenditure and reduce its environmental impact.
The council has updated its outgoing fleet management system to the most recent version of Chevin’s Fleetwave software and is also piloting a new green car share tool developed by the provider that matches similar trips among colleagues and encourages journey-sharing among staff.
Nick Gingell, Bristol City Council’s fleet manager, said: “Looking for innovative ways to reduce the negative environmental impact operating a large fleet of vehicles can have has always been a priority.
“The automated reporting. will provide an enhanced means for us to pro-actively monitor our fleet operations against a series of green key performance indicators.
“[Bristol is] the first council in the country to use the green car share tool to practice what we preach as an organisation regarding the use of public transport and sharing journeys for the benefit of the environment. I hope where Bristol leads, others will follow.”
