Embarrassed by her council’s lack of green credentials, the mayor of Bolton, councillor Barbara Ronson, is taking huge steps to improve its environmental credentials and reduce the carbon footprint of her fleet.

In a bid to cut CO2 emissions by 150 tonnes a year, all of the council’s 475 vehicles will now run biodiesel produced from vegetable oil.

Even the mayoral limo hasn’t escaped her attention – it’s been swapped for a more efficient diesel Jaguar XJ.
