BMW is refusing to rule out the first ever diesel version of its Z4 roadster.
The new model launched this month with a choice of three petrol engines, but BMW will be eyeing the fortunes of Audi‘s diesel TT.
“We obviously always consider our options, and a diesel might well appeal in the UK market,” said David Tuckett, Z4 product manager. “However, BMW is a global company and we have to consider the wider market when looking at introducing new derivatives.”
The stumbling block for a diesel Z4 could be the lack of appetite in America, which accounts for 35% of Z4 sales.
Tuckett also confirmed that there won’t be a Z4 coupe derivative, thanks to the new model being equipped with a folding metal roof rather than the previous version’s cloth top.
