BMW has revealed the estate version of the new 5-series that goes on sale on 18 September, six months after the saloon, priced from £30,380.

Good news for buyers is that BMW has addressed one of the key issues with the outgoing Touring model, namely the luggage cover now automatically lowers as well as raises when you open and close the boot.

The new 5-series Touring is also larger and more practical than the outgoing model. Boot space is up 60 litres at 560 litres with the rear seat in their regular position, the seat backs can then be tilted to a more upright position to provide an extra 30 litres of space. All models will come with rear seats that 40:20:40 split fold, and when folded give 1670 litres of load space.

Initially available with four engines, the new BMW 5-series Touring offers a choice of two petrol cars, the 523i and 535i, and two diesel models, the 520d and 530d.
