Rental car company Avis has added 100 Toyota Yaris Hybrids to its London customer fleet, with the first cars being made available at Heathrow and Stansted airports.
The cars will then be added to the firm’s fleets at other south east locations like Gatwick and Luton airports.
Avis said the Yaris hybrid to be an ideal proposition for driving in and out of the capital.
“The Yaris scores highly in many respects against our requirements for an inner city hire car; it is easy to drive and reliable,” said Jane Goodwin, Avis UK fleet procurement manager. “The ultra-low emissions secured by its hybrid system make it a unique proposition in its class in achieving exemption from the London congestion charge.”
Meanwhile, Midlands-based takeaway chain Big John’s has placed an order for 12 Yaris models. The firm said the car was chosen because there is enough room inside for the company’s 20-inch pizzas to be carried flat.
“The quality of our meals has to be matched by the service we provide, which means having a vehicle fleet we can depend on to do the job, promptly, safely and reliably.,” said Mike Somers, Big John’s operations director.
