Roads safety has been called into question by a new report that has discovered the average distance between potholes in England is 120 yards.

However, according to the annual Alarm report by the Asphalt Industry Alliance, there has been an improvement in pothole repair funding.

As a result local authorities are less worried by the safety implications of potholes than they were a year ago, despite an increase in the back-log of unfilled potholes.

Between 2008 and 2009 the percentage of authorities worried about pothole road safety has dropped from 89% to 74%.
