Arval’s policy of encouraging its business car drivers to opt for greener vehicles has resulted in the company’s CO2 fleet average falling by at least 10% to 128g/km during the past 12 months as 25% of staff taking delivery of new models opted for cars from a specific ‘Eco’ group.

Tracy Scarr, Arval’s fleet and road safety manager, said the revised choice list had been “very successful in influencing vehicle selection habits of many employees and reducing average emissions” although a continuing broad choice list “by no means forced drivers to select the greenest vehicles.” Most employees trading down to lower CO2 cars qualify for a special monthly salary “allowance.”
