Volkswagen has replaced the mid-level Golf SE with a new Match edition, which adds front and rear parking sensors, front fog lights and a mirror pack (that includes auto dimming rear-view mirrors, puddle lights and reverse-activated dipping on the nearside mirror) over and above the outgoing model.

It costs the same, with prices starting at £19,680 for the 122hp 1.4 TSI three-door and rising to £24,120 for the 150hp 2.0 TDI five-door. The most economical version is the 1.6 TDI 105, which emits 99g/km, returns an official 74.3mpg and costs £20,535 for the three-door and £21,190 for the five-door.
