The Ford Fiesta retained its title as the UK’s bestselling car in 2018, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 

The year saw 95,892 Fiestas registered, well ahead of the second-placed Volkswagen Golf on 64,829. 

The top five was completed by the Vauxhall Corsa (52,915), Nissan Qashqai (50,546), and Ford Focus (50,492). 

Rounding out the top ten were the Volkswagen Polo (45,149), Mini (44,904), Mercedes-Benz A-Class (43,527), Ford Kuga (40,398) and Kia Sportage (35,567). 

In terms of market segments, the only area of growth was SUVs, for which registrations rose by 9.1%. 

The two largest segments remained superminis and lower-medium cars, making up 58.7% of the market between them, although they were down by 2.5% and 9.4% respectively.
