Hyundai has revealed first details of its new i30 hatchback ahead of its official unveil at the Paris motor show later this month.

Set to go on sale in early 2017, the new i30 showcases the latest design language from the Korean carmaker and will feature a new ‘Cascading Grille’ and wraparound LED lights.

Big news is the introduction of a 1.4-litre 140hp petrol engine, the first car to feature it in the firm’s line-up, which boasts greater fuel efficiency and power than the outgoing unit.

There’s also a further two petrol engines available, including the popular 120hp 1.0-litre unit, and one 1.6-litre diesel in three outputs; 95hp, 110hp and 133hp. We are yet to get confirmation if all these engines will be available in the UK, though.

CO2 emissions are predicted to start as low as 89g/km and company car drivers will have a choice of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, depending on the engine they choose.

Longer and wider than the car it replaces, the i30 hatchback’s boot is also 17 litres bigger than the previous model at 395 litres, with the rear seats down space increases to 1,301-litres.

Inside features a new information cluster and infotainment system with upgraded satnav. There will also be a whole raft of safety features available including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic high bean and blind spot monitoring.

Set to rival the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra, the new i30 will initially go on sale as a hatchback only, other bodystyles are expected to join the line-up later in the year.

Pricing and full trim details will be announced closer to the time.
