Auto Windscreens has launched its first prescription windscreen to help people with optical problems.

The company has researched the curvature of corrective spectacles for short-sightedness and has developed a windscreen which can be curbed to match an individual’s ophthalmic prescription.

The company said the prescription windscreen will ensure “that drivers will never have to be frustrated with finding their glasses or, more importantly, risk driving illegally without them”.

Nigel Davies, Auto Windscreens sales and marketing director, said: “The benefits to drivers are numerous. Not only will cars fitted with new presciption windscreen help keep glasses wearers safe and legal on our roads but could potentially lead to a reduction in vehicle theft.”

He added: “We anticipate the prescription windscreen will be a success and we’re currently researching and developing a bi-focal windscreen.”

The windscreen was launched on 1 April, April Fool’s Day.
