The Touran has form when it comes to this award – the 2015 Mini-MPV of the Year title joins those it won in 2011 and 2013.
The car is the epitome of a sensible, good-quality product that does a job in a sensible manner. It’s probably the least exciting model to win a BusinessCar award in 2015, but in this sector it’s about being good value, practical and rational.
Volkswagen’s mini-MPV is offered in three trim levels and with five engine options, but all models get seven seats, with the smaller two seats in the third row more suited to younger occupants. The most efficient is the 105hp 1.6 that, at 121g/km, just misses out on the symbolic 120g/km mark. The 150hp 2.0 diesel is only 6g/km worse off, but it will cost you an additional £1765.
This is something of a farewell award for the Touran because it will be replaced in the second half of 2015 by a new model that should bring efficiency improvements and increased functionality, technology and practicality.
