It’s at this point of the year that people start asking what’s going to happen in 2008. This time I’m not sitting on the fence – there are five topics BusinessCar will be keeping an eye on next year.
The most obvious pair, and a hangover from 2007, will be an increasing pressure to ‘go green’ and rising fuel prices. However, if your fleet gets ‘greener’ and therefore more efficient you’ll also be saving on your fuel bill.
At Budget time (spring) two more issues will come back to the fore. Firstly we’re expecting a decision on AMAP rates. Really. And secondly we may just see an incentive to buy a Euro5 diesel. The obvious incentive would be to remove the 3% BIK penalty for Euro5 compliant diesels.
Saving possibly the most important issue of 2008 until last, the new Corporate Manslaughter Bill comes into law and you can bet the authorities will want to make an example of at least one company.
On that cheerful note I’d like to wish all BusinessCar readers a merry Christmas and a happy new year. This is the last print version of BusinessCar for 2007, but don’t forget we’ll still be updating BusinessCar.co.uk. The next magazine will be on your desk on 9 January.
