Car editors from Glass’s report on motor auction activity from around the country
A very busy sale at BCA Bedford. The car park was overflowing by 10am and all other cars had to park off-site. Pulling in the buyers were a very strong 838 cars to sell with the main vendors being UKCGR, ALD, Pendragon, Bristol Street Motors, Steven Eagle Toyota, Jardines and Inchcape. There were a few offerings from some other sources too.
Bidding in the hall was fairly brisk and there was no shortage of online bidders either with a strong conversion rate.

I was up at Manheim Leeds for an Arval, BMW and Hitachi sale. Outside the hall, there was a notice saying that due to space issues they were not accepting any new entries unless they were no reserve, so that seemed to bode well for the sale. However, the halls were not as busy as the car park suggested and the overall atmosphere was rather flat.
The conversion rate was reasonable but values weren’t that strong with only a handful of active bidders. The usual trends were clear – specification and colour are still key with lower grade cars struggling to get decent money. There were a number of Nissan Qashqais in the sale, and the older ones performed better against the book than the late plate ones – probably a mixture of price point and supply, plus the strong deals available on new ones.

BCA Enfield was a packed site, full of buyers and with a very healthy 722 cars on offer from UKCGR, Endeavour Automotive, BMW Park Lane, Jardine, Sytner, Glyn Hopkin and Jemca. Bidding was brisk from the off. By the end of the sale, the conversion rate was healthy. There were some lovely low mileage vehicles and a bidding frenzy surrounded most of these. The most unusual was low mileage Renault Modus on an 05 plate with just 5,562 miles. It had a service stamp every 500 miles and even the cambelt had been changed. Needless to say it made 50% over book.
