It’s both massively enjoyable and a spectacular headache pulling together the annual BusinessCar Power List.
This is the fifth time we’ve carried out the exercise, where we rate, subjectively, the 50 people we feel have the most influence over the business car sector.
It’s always amusing to get feedback afterwards. Last year I heard from four or five people who were being teased for being deemed more powerful than Barack Obama. The bad news for them is that the US President doesn’t make the 50 this time around, so people will have to make do with being more powerful in the business car industry than our own esteemed leader David Cameron. Interestingly, in the years we’ve been doing the Power List, I’m yet to hear from anyone who thinks they should have been placed higher up!
Judging the leasing companies and manufacturers is relatively easy, because there are basic figures, the numbers of vehicles they are responsible for, that we can use as a start point, before applying external factors that may increase or diminish their influence. However, how to pitch in the politicians,
trade associations and other people with varying degrees of influence has caused arguments, heated debates (more arguments) and the occasional tantrum (big argument).
As mentioned, the list is, unashamedly, based on just our educated opinion, so let me know if you agree – or if you don’t.
