This is what we need
I spent an interesting couple of hours at Thatcham (www.thatcham.org) last week speaking to their Accreditation Manager. I have long been promoting the need for a standard on telematics systems and it appears that Thatcham have also been thinking along the same lines.
They have now developed TQA (Thatcham Quality Accreditation) Criteria for Telemetry – Fleet Management Systems which is just what fleet managers and the industry need.
For all my colleagues out there you know how many telematics companies there are and how many phone calls and brochures you get every week. If you were in the market for a system how would you choose a reputable company?
Now with the Thatcham standard available at least you know that the product that you buy is reliable and has back up.
In addition, the claims that the seller makes can be justified and the installation process is certified. This goes further than anything else we have had in the past but I think there is still some need for regulation in the telematics field as well as a suitable trade association.
Well done to Thatcham for helping to differentiate in a very crowded market place.
