There is no doubt that the last, second-generation Peugeot 3008, was key to a resurgence in fleet business in the SUV sector. Plus, it has defined the attractive and distinctive family look that subsequent models from the iconic lion brand follow.
After seven years, there’s a new 3008, and an all-electric E-3008 version.
Speaking to Peugeot UK sales and operations director Sam Brandon, we first ask if he’s got any official prediction for the fleet/retail mix for the new E-3008. Plus, if that mix is expected to grow with this new EV version available.
He says: “Considering all that the new E-3008 has to offer fleet drivers, we expect the mix to be broadly 55% fleet and 45% retail.
“Yes, we’re expecting the fleet mix to grow now it is available as an EV. The 3008 is
well-positioned for growing fleet channels and will take full advantage of Salary Sacrifice and Business Contract Hire (BCH) schemes, supporting growth across fleet channels.
“This clear positioning alongside our eight-year Allure Care Programme will support both fleet and retail customers, building reassurance and aligning with the eight-year battery warranty – equalling a very strong fleet proposition.”
Brandon also confirms there was strong fleet loyalty with the second-generation 3008 which he believes will continue with the new car. He says: “The new 3008 also provides us with a significant opportunity to conquest via fleet with both stunning design and with the choice of EV and hybrid drivetrains, via Salary Sacrifice and BCH schemes.
“The new 3008 is part of Peugeot’s wider commitment to electrification, with the broadest electric range of any mainstream European brand, meeting the needs of private and business customers.
“Peugeot already offers seven fully electric passenger cars and is one of few brands to offer a fully electric variant across its LCV line-up. In 2024, the Peugeot 100% electric range will expand further with the introduction of three new exciting models, the E-3008, E-408 and E-5008 offering seven seats, bringing the brand’s fully electric car and van range to 12 vehicles.
“Peugeot has also introduced the Allure Care programme for customers of the new E-3008, which covers the electric motor, charging system, powertrain, and electrical and mechanical components for up to eight years or 100,000 miles. This makes Peugeot the first UK brand to offer such extensive coverage on one of its models, giving fleet customers the confidence and peace of mind they need to make the switch.
“The Peugeot Allure Care programme is in addition to the specific warranty offered by Peugeot on all its electric vehicle batteries, also lasting eight years or 100,000 miles. Peugeot Allure Care is activated and maintained through regular servicing and subject to terms and conditions.”
Peugeot is also an established supplier of vehicles to the police; we ask Brandon if he anticipated new interest with the introduction of the E-3008?
He says: “We have an established relationship with the police, built over many years. We’re continually talking to them about future plans, and we’re in a good position to maintain and grow our partnership. As such, we’re already looking at conversion opportunities with the new 3008 and E-3008.”
We ask what equipment grade Brandon thought would be key for corporate and fleet customers choosing the new car? He tells us: “With orders already open, the 3008s will start arriving in Q2 with mild hybrid and EV versions. Out of the choice of Allure and GT trims, we expect there to be a 60/40 split for fleet in favour of the GT trim.”
Along with EVs, I ask Brandon what other parts of corporate business Peugeot will target. He says: “As part of Stellantis, we’ve restructured the whole fleet team all with a clear focus on supporting our fleet partners and customers. Additionally, there will also be a new brand-dedicated head of fleet role for Peugeot.
“We expect new 3008 to perform well across many channels, but also Peugeot have a strong proposition across cars and LCVs, with the models and drivetrains to grow Leasing, SME and PCH and Salary Sacrifice. LCV will be led by the strategy to extend the electric, PHEV and mild hybrid range. Peugeot residual values continue to strengthen, as thus they’re helping us drive a more competitive proposition.”
