1 What was your first job?

I left education when I was 17 and went to work for the Civil Service at the DHSS [Department of Health and Social Security, which ceased to exist in 1988] doing administration work. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I did know I was fed up at college and just wanted to go to work.  My first job was flipping hamburgers on a Saturday when I was 13.

2 What was your first company car, and what do you drive now?

I’m lucky enough to drive a Range Rover, and I love it – my first ever new car!

3 What did you listen to on your last car journey?

The Eagles – I love them.

4 What one thing do you wish you could do better?

Diet.

5 What’s your biggest achievement?

Having people believe in me.

6 What are your three favourite films?

Field of Dreams, Trading Places and Star Wars (all of them!)

7 What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done?

Pressing send on an email or text to the wrong person. You know what I mean!

9 What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind?

[The 1980s US soap opera] Knots Landing.

10 What’s the worst thing about your job?

Being responsible for people, their jobs and their livelihood. It drives me to make it succeed, but it’s always a pressure!

11 What one law would you make or change?

Bring in assisted suicide for terminally ill people.

12 What did you want to be when you grew up?

Just happy.

13 Who is your ideal celebrity date?

Piers Morgan – you’d never be bored!
