Using an iPod in the Insignia is simple. The USB slot is located in the space under the armrest, and allows you to control the device using either the touch-screen in the middle of the dash, or via the steering wheel controls or with voice recognition.
It generally works well. However, on an early trip I shut the armrest with the iPod inside, then found at the end of my journey that I couldn’t open it again. Much swearing, fiddling with various tools and frustration followed.
When I did succeed, I saw that the iPod lead had been trapped in the catch, preventing me from accessing storage area. Note to self: fully tuck in cable before shutting the armrest.
