After Labour announced it would stick to its manifesto to reinstate the 2030 phase-out for new petrol and diesel cars, there is now ambiguity as to what that means for car and van operators.
A consultation is expected to look at defining what specifications a car or van must have to be officially categorised as a ‘hybrid’ which can continue to be sold from 2030-2035.
The consultation is also expected to cover vans as well as cars, with the BVRLA highlighting the challenges facing electric van adoption with industry and government.

It enables customers to lease an electric car from one month to three years, with the freedom to return the vehicle without commitment after one month. This gives companies and their drivers the ability to assess EVs.
For van operators, Grosvenor’s Electric Van Flexible Switch programme allows companies to source an ICE (internal combustion engine) van through a flexible contract that enables them to switch to an EV when suitable zero-emission models become available.
