Our intense opening 440 miles, 10-day period with the Peugeot 208 involved a fair chunk of motorway driving, which generated what sounded like excessive road noise from the five-door supermini’s hindquarters.

Knowing that the car required a new rear bumper after a pre-delivery workshop mishap, Peugeot took it back – but could not find any tangible cause following the fender bending and mending. By way of comparison, we briefly ran a three-door substitute, which seemed better insulated from road and wind noise.
