Mercedes claims its new CLA-class will establish a new segment with its groundbreaking aerodynamics and coupe styling.
The four-door coupe takes its design cue from the upper medium CLS, which debuted in 2003. Featuring frameless doors, the CLA production car is based on Mercedes’ Concept Style Coupe and will be available with 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines with power outputs of 122hp and 211hp respectively as well as a 2.2-litre 170hp diesel engine.
The manufacturer claims the CLA sets a world record in aerodynamics for series production automobiles with a drag coefficient value of 0.23 (or 0.22 for the CLA 180 BlueEFFICIENCY Edition, which is not confirmed for the UK market).
The model comes with a range of driving assistance systems, including advanced Collision Prevention Assist, which guards against rear end collisions from a speed of 4mph.
The CLA will have its official world premiere at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin, 15-18 January, and will be available to order from March before arriving in showrooms in June.
