Management information is vital to addressing traditionally unrecoverable costs for fleet managers, such as end-of-contract damage repairs, driving offences or accidental damage, according to Nina Hughes, fleet and travel manager for energy provider Eon.
By “knowing numbers better than everyone else”, including fleet lists, assets such as leasing or accident management, services such as fuel cards and licence checks, and other areas such as grey fleet and salary sacrifice, and raising awareness of these numbers within a company, such costs can be targeted. Hughes said: “If we give info about people’s behaviours, that in turn drives down costs.”
Talking at ACFO Midlands regional meeting, she added the aim of MI is to illustrate how money is spent: “By finding a solid baseline of year-on-year costs, we can make people think about what the numbers mean, and in turn avoid unrecoverable costs mounting up that we could easily get back.”
