Audi has added a clean TDIe variant to the A5 range.

Available with the five-door Sportback and the Coupe, the 2.0-litre TDIe unit comes in 136- and 163hp guise and emits between 115- and 118g/km depending on its application.

The A5 Coupe misses out on the less powerful 136hp engine, but its lower weight means it’s the cleanest version with 115g/km and 64.2mpg, along with 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds.

The A5 Sportback 136 TDIe averages and identical 64.2mpg but falls slightly short of the lighter Coupe with 117g/km and a 9.5 second 0-62mph time.

The 163hp Sportback offers 62.8mpg, 118g/km and 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds.

As well as the clean powerplant, all four-cylinder A5s are now offered with a new SE Technik trim, which adds satnav, Audi’s music connection system, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control on top of SE trim.

This costs and an additional £500 with the Coupe and another £1000 on the Sportback.
