This is a sixth BusinessCar Award overall for the excellent Ford S-max, proving it has substance to go with style. The winner of both the BusinessCar of the Year and people carrier prizes in 2007, the S-max also picked up the latter crown in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
The combination of good looks and practicality, as well as increased efficiency in the past 12 months, is proving a winner with the business car market.
The most recent additions to the line-up, and that of its bigger Galaxy people carrier sibling, are a pair of 1.6-litre engines. The diesel alternative brings emissions down to 139g/km for the 1.6 TDCi, while the petrol equivalent, using Ford’s turbocharged Ecoboost technology, comes in below 160g/km, despite offering power of 160hp. The Ecoboost petrol engine in Zetec trim also brings the S-max’s entry price down to just £22,295, which looks excellent value.
The S-max is certainly a worthy winner, proving that family-based practicality doesn’t mean sacrificing style or driving enjoyment.
