The honeymoon could be over. Almost three months into our long-term Countryman journey and, just like most marriages, while there’s plenty that still appeals, everyday proximity is beginning to reveal minor but regular irritations.
We still look forward to driving the Mini, but some of its functionality is starting to niggle. There’s the way the indicators don’t switch off easily after turning, and the lack of a consistent ‘occasional windscreen wipe’ function, unless you press the auto mode button on the end of the stalk. Then there are the electric window switches, not close to the window in question, but non-intuitively low-down on the centre stack in a row. There are graphics underneath that illustrate which switch is for which window but they aren’t easy to decipher when driving. And the front driver’s window doesn’t have one-touch closing either. In summary, the dash is a pleasant design but its switches and knobs don’t work as well as they look like they ought to.
