Minor running repairs have been necessary for our Astra after higher than previous motorway wind noise levels were registered coming from the front end.
It appears that the twin element nose spoiler below the bumper was damaged on Heathrow’s traffic calming humps as the valet parking attendant hurried to return the Sports Tourer to the terminal.
Action and result? Manipulation of the flexible plastic bib to slide the two parts together restored aero efficiency and impressively low external noise.
The 885 varied miles covered to date, including a predominantly motorway return journey between south Oxfordshire and south Wales, have generated a disappointing 47mpg average, 16mpg below the official combined tally and 4mpg below the urban figure. Must try harder.
Our Astra has a 1.7-litre Ecoflex, 125hp diesel engine but stop/start only becomes available in October on this powerplant. Likely to be an integral part of a dedicated model it would have been a more prudent option rather than some more indulgent gizmos included in the £1940 options bundle.
