Leasing firm Leasedrive Group has warned a difficult journey lies ahead before electric vehicles make a significant impact on the market.

In its ‘Essential Guide to Electric Vehicles – Future Imperfect‘ Leasedrive predicts hurdles ahead before electric-powered cars become widely adopted.

Roddy Graham, commercial director at Leasedrive, said doubts remain over the lack of a nationwide recharging infrastructure and whether the sale or lease of battery packs is the better option.

“The future success of electric vehicles will depend on the establishment of a proper recharging network infrastructure, more acceptable ranges between battery recharges and lower lithium-ion battery costs.

“How much in road electric vehicles will make into a market dominated by the internal combustion engine will also depend on how prices converge with the latter, post initial subsidies and escalating oil prices,” Graham said.
