Citroen is planning to launch its Multicity mobility scheme in the UK next year, according to the new UK managing director.
Multicity is already operational in France and allows members to find the best mode of transport for any given journey. The service is based online and includes a telephone service as well as an iPhone App. Multicity is linked in with public transport booking systems so that customers can plan a journey, book tickets or hire cars from one point. The French service even allows users to book hotel rooms.
The Multicity service allows users to compare different forms of transport to achieve the fastest or most efficient way of travelling.
In France the service is aimed at both businesses and individuals.
Speaking at the launch of the new DS4, Linda Jackson, MD of Citroen, said Multicity would be launched in the UK at the end of this year or at the start of 2012.
“It’s early stages. We’re currently looking at how we set this up, such as looking for partner companies,” said Jackson.
Unlike some brands, Citroen
does not already have an in-house rental firm so is thought to be considering either starting one or, more likely, partnering with an existing rental firm.
There are several car manufacturers working on mobility options and Multicity will give Citroen a rival to Peugeot‘s Mu, which offers a range of Peugeot vehicles including bikes as well as cars under a points scheme. However, the Citroen plan differs because it ties in with the public transport network and doesn’t just use Citroen vehicles.
