Mitsubishi launched an LCV version of our long-term ASX in January this year.
Called the 4Work, it joins the brand’s Shogun and Outlander LCVs and the L200 pick-up, with Mitsubishi expecting opportunities with existing fleet customers.
Priced at £19,874 (plus VAT), the 1.8 147hp diesel is near-identical to our 3 1.6 petrol model, except the rear seats and boot have been stripped out, giving 1.2cu/m of load space volume, and the back passenger windows are completely blacked out, hampering visibility when checking blind spots. The LCV version is also four-wheel drive, while our ASX 3 is 2WD. Mitsubishi hasn’t downgraded the interior, so the cabin’s still comfortable.
As a diesel, the LCV has a six-speed gearbox, which our long-term five-speed petrol so desperately needs past 60mph. The extra power of the diesel, compared with our 115hp 1.6, is also welcome, especially on motorways.
The 4Work is low volume, says Mitsubishi, but is attracting interest from utility companies.
