Adapted Vehicle Hire, which supplies wheelchair accessible vehicles for rent, has developed a fleet guidelines policy for 2011.
The policy is designed to ensure all new vehicles joining its fleet meet the highest possible number of user needs prior to adaption.
AVH has drawn up primary and secondary requirements, with vehicles having to meet all of the former and as many as possible of the latter requirements before being considered for the fleet.
Primary requirements include rear parking sensors and electric windows, while cruise control, push button ignition, Bluetooth, secondary steering wheel controls (for stereo, for example) parking brake button, automatic boot and electric seats come into the secondary category.
AVH also checks vehicles against the Ricability database to ensure they provide the best possible space for wheelchair stowage and that they are suited to transfers in and out of wheelchairs.
AVH boss Lorraine Farnon said: “It is vital any new vehicles we purchase in 2011 include functionality that helps make driving as easy as possible for our customers.”
